(…) An der Oberbaumbrücke direkt neben den Deichtorhallen markiert die Skulptur ONE MORE TRY den Treffpunkt für eine Reihe von sechs Tattoo-Performances an verschiedenen Orten in der Hafencity. Die Silhouette einer winterfest verpackten Palme fungiert zugleich als öffentlicher Infopoint für kommende und vergangene Veranstaltungen.
Ausgehend von ihrer Faszination für die eng mit der Geschichte der Seefahrt – und ihrer Romantisierung – verbundenen Kulturtechnik des Tätowierens, entwirft Franziska Nast für jede Session ein neues Motiv. Als Vorlage dienen domestizierte exotische Pflanzen, die sie in auf privaten Fensterbänken, in Firmenlobbies oder auf öffentlichen Flächen im Stadtteil gefunden hat. Auf Wunsch sticht die Künstlerin Ihnen persönlich ein Unikat. (…)

(...) At the Oberbaumbrücke right next to the Deichtorhallen, the sculpture ONE MORE TRY marks the meeting point for a series of six tattoo performances at different locations in the Hafencity. The silhouette of a winter-wrapped palm tree functions at the same time as a public info point for upcoming and past events.
Based on her interest in the cultural technique of tattooing, which is closely linked to the history of seafaring - and its romanticization - Franziska Nast designs a new motif for each session. Domesticated exotic plants that she has found in private windowsills, corporate lobbies or public spaces in the district serve as templates. Upon request, the artist will personally engrave a unique piece for you. (...)

THE GATE untersucht Hamburgs Identität anhand des bekannten Image-Slogans vom „Tor zur Welt“. Die zweiteilige Ausstellung im Stadtraum macht sich die Deutungsvielfalt der Metapher zunutze und folgt ihren Spuren dort, wo sich die Stadt mit sich selbst befasst: in der HafenCity. In Europas größtem innerstädtischen Stadtentwicklungsprojekt trifft Traditionsbewusstsein auf Innovationsstreben, hier wird die aktuellste Vision vom „Tor zur Welt“ in gebauten Raum übersetzt. Im je eigenen Format zeigen die beiden Teile von THE GATE die HafenCity als einen sich ständig wandelnden Organismus, in dem Gebäude und Menschen sich wechselseitig beeinflussen. Die fünf übergreifenden Kapitel Kontrolle, Limbo, Paradies, Potenz und Übersee verbinden eine lokal verortete Audiothek und einen Kunstparcours, der in 16 Stationen durch die HafenCity führt.

THE GATE examines Hamburg's identity on the basis of the well-known image slogan of the "gateway to the world". The two-part exhibition in the urban space takes advantage of the metaphor's diversity of interpretation and follows its traces where the city deals with itself: in HafenCity. In Europe's largest inner-city urban development project, a sense of tradition meets a striving for innovation; here, the latest vision of the "gateway to the world" is translated into constructed space. Each in its own format, the two parts of THE GATE show HafenCity as a constantly changing organism in which buildings and people interact. The five overarching chapters Control, Limbo, Paradise, Potency and Overseas combine a locally located audio library and an art trail that leads through HafenCity in 16 stations.
